Most general dentists perform a multitude of procedures depending on the needs of their patients, including but not limited to sealants, fillings (tooth colored, silver, or gold), crowns (tooth colored or gold), straightening crooked or rotated teeth, extractions, teeth cleanings and soft tissue (gums) management, fixed bridgework replacing one or several teeth, root canals, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, and possibly dental implants. When deemed appropriate or necessary, the general dentists may refer a patient to one or more of the specialties in dentistry.
